Grant Accounting

Workshops: Accounting For Grants

Grants and/or government contracts are the key income source for many not-for-profits. Where a NFP derives its income from many different such sources for many different purposes, accounting and accountability can become very complex and overwhelming.

There is a lot to cover, that’s why there’s two workshops.

Workshop I: Responsibilities when accepting grants and government contracts

Grants come in different shapes and sizes, but they also have some features in common. This workshop explains:

  • What you can and can’t do with a grant.
  • Difference between a grant and a government funding agreement.
  • What you’re signing up to when accepting a grant.
  • Grants with and without ‘use-or-return’ conditions.
  • Why auditors are interested in grants.
